‘Selamat Datang’, the Indonesian phrase for ‘WELCOME’

The moment you pass the fierce looking stone guardians and the huge mangrove root system that forms our entrance, you will realise that you have entered a magical realm. Mysterious shadow puppets, real Batik tablecloths, grotesque Balinese masks, and enough artworks and Indonesian curios to fill a small museum complete the picture.

We are currently the ONLY restaurant in New Zealand where you can enjoy ‘Rijsttafel’, the famous Indonesian banquet, where a multitude of dishes is directly served to your table and kept warm on small candle powered heaters.

Since 1 August 2010 Restaurant Indonesia has new owners,  Joss Lamers &  Kees Peters. Since the start of this restaurant in 1983 they now are the fourth owners/operators to run this well-known establishment. After taking over the restaurant in August 2010 we closed for some upgrades & changes and re-opened on 1 September 2010.

We welcome you to our restaurant but also invite you to explore this website where you will find a lot of information about our menu - also available in German &  French – wine list, history, etc.  And do not forget to read the Reviews by our customers.. !
